The Mozambican police arrested on Sunday in Maputo six suspected drug traffickers with 50 kilos of methamphetamine, the police announced today.
The operation followed the arrest of three people and the seizure of 730 kilos of methamphetamine on 5 October in Gorongosa, in the central part of the country, said Lurdes Cuchama, spokeswoman for the National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic) in Sofala province.
The group arrested in Maputo is made up of three Nigerians, two Tanzanians and a Mozambican and were keeping the substance in a residence in the Kongolothe neighbourhood.
“The drugs were ready to be transported to South Africa,” the spokeswoman added.
The six detainees were taken to the city of Beira to join the rest of the suspects under investigation.
