In Mozambique, 4,300 workers in the accommodation, tourism and construction sectors were laid off this year as a result of the economic recession in the world and the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The reduction in the flow of customers in accommodation establishments and the consequent poor collection of revenue and lack of work are the root cause of the situation.
Labour Inspector General Domingos Sambo says that the number of laid-off workers may be higher, as some companies do not report to labour administration authorities.
Sambo said that the authorities in the sector had launched an awareness campaign for employers to try to address the matter.
