Mozambique: Norway and UN project to strengthen women's participation in peacebuilding

The Mozambican health authorities on Wednesday reported 43 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease and 74 recoveries.
According to a Wednesday press release from the Ministry of Health, 25 of the new cases were men and 18 were women. 42 were Mozambican citizens and one was a foreigner (as is standard practice, his nationality was not disclosed). Their ages varied from one to 76 years.
The new cases were widely scattered across the country. There were 10 in Inhambane, seven in Sofala, six in Zambezia, five in Gaza and five in Maputo city. There were also four cases in Niassa, two in Cabo Delgado, two in Maputo province, one in Tete and one in Manica. The only province that reported no new cases was Nampula.
Since the start of the pandemic, 1,361,591 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 603 of them in the previous 24 hours. 560 of these tests yielded negative results, and the 43 who tested positive raised the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 229,160.
The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) rose slightly from 6.36 per cent on Tuesday, to 7.13 per cent on Wednesday.
Three Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital on Wednesday, two in Zambezia and one in Niassa, but six new cases were admitted, four in Zambezia, one in Niassa and one in Manica. The number of patients receiving medical care in the Covid-19 wards rose from six on Tuesday to nine on Wednesday – four of these patients were in Niassa, with two in Zambezia, and one each in Cabo Delgado, Manica and Inhambane. None of these patients were in intensive care.
No further deaths were reported on Wednesday, and so the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remained 2,215.
Of the 74 recoveries reported, 55 were in Gaza and 19 in Inhambane. The total number of recoveries rose to 226,557, which is 98.86 per cent of all cases of Covid-19 ever diagnosed in Mozambique.
The number of active cases of Covid-19 fell from 415 on Tuesday to 384 on Wednesday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Sofala, 84; Zambezia, 68; Nampula, 61; Gaza, 48; Cabo Delgado, 39; Inhambane, 29; Maputo city, 22; Tete, 14; Niassa, 11; Manica, four; and Maputo province, four.
The Ministry release also reported that, over the previous 24 hours, a further 1,002 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. The number of people fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 14,594,241. This is 96 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.
15,357,561 people have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, and 520,547 have received booster doses.
