Forty temporary teachers at the Institute of Health Sciences of Nampula (ICSN), who taught there between 2015 and 2017, are still waiting for their salaries for the years 2015 and 2016.
The teachers told ‘Carta de Moçambique’ that they have contacted the institution management and the Provincial Health Directorate of Nampula, but without success.
“In 2017, we asked for clarification in relation to the matter, and were told to wait for the availability of funds. After two-and-a-half years, we have requested payment of the amounts owed, but without any positive response,” the group says.
The Director-General of the Institute, Maria De Fátima Lampião, acknowledged the existence of the debt in a statement sent to the group on 31 August 2020, saying the salaries had not been paid in due time due to lack of financial availability.
The information was being forwarded to the Provincial Services of Economy and Finance for payment purposes, she said, but also that the Institute was waiting for an Inspectorate General of Finance audit to validate the debts.
‘Carta’ contacted the Director-General of the Institute of Health Sciences of Nampula to seek clarification on the subject, but she was unavailable to address the matter over the phone. Our reporter was available to exchange correspondence with her, but until the closing time of this article we had still not received her email address for questions.
