Around 40 minors with multiple disabilities, including motor, are struggling with a lack of medication at the Dom Orione Centre in Maputo.
According to the centre’s deputy director, Father Paulino Secane, the situation is worrying, since many of them are taking special medications that are essential for their daily lives.
“These are psychotropic and energy-boosting drugs used to control pain and seizures – because many of them have incurable brain injuries and need to be monitored and controlled,” said Father Secane, adding, “These are expensive medications.”
In addition, he reports difficulties in rehabilitative care, which includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy and dental care, among other specific paid services.
