A total of 36 Mozambicans were detained abroad in 2023, involved in drug trafficking, mostly in Brazil, Portugal and Angola, according to a report by the public prosecutor’s office consulted on Friday by Lusa.
In the annual report by the Central Office for Preventing and Combating Drugs, on the evolution of illicit consumption and trafficking, it is stated that of the total of 36 Mozambicans detained in police operations outside the country, three more than in 2022, 21 were in Brazil, two in Portugal and one in Angola.
Another two were detained in Thailand and India, with further detentions recorded in Zambia, Indonesia, Ethiopia, China, Qatar, Mauritius, Hong Kong and Dubai.
The Mozambican authorities, for their part, detained 11 foreign nationals involved in drug trafficking in Mozambique in 2023, including four from Nigeria and Eswatini, two Angolans and one Tanzanian.
