Mozambique: MISA demands investigation into disappearance of journalist

The Mozambican health authorities on Wednesday reported a further 32 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, and 89 recoveries.
According to a Wednesday press release from the Ministry of Health, 23 of the new cases were women and nine were men. All were Mozambican citizens. The youngest was one year old, and the oldest was 70.
Maputo city, Tete and Zambezia all reported seven cases. There were also five cases in Gaza and two each in Niassa, Sofala and Inhambane. There were no positive cases in the other four provinces.
Since the start of the pandemic, 1,365,756 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 705 of them in the previous 24 hours. 673 of these tests yielded negative results, and the 32 who tested positive raised the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 229,443.
The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) was little changed, rising from 4.12 per cent on Tuesday to 4.54 per cent on Wednesday.
No Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital on Wednesday, and one new case was admitted, in Niassa. The number of patients under medical care in the Covid-19 wards rose from 11 on Tuesday to 12 on Wednesday. Four of these patients were in Niassa, three in Maputo city, and one each in Cabo Delgado, Zambezia, Manica, Sofala and Inhambane.
Of the 89 recoveries announced on Wednesday, 37 were from Sofala, 23 from Inhambane, 23 from Nampula, and six from Maputo province. The total number of recoveries rose to 226,920, which is 98.9 per cent of all cases of Covid-19 ever diagnosed in Mozambique.
The number of active cases of Covid-19 fell from 361 on Tuesday to 304 on Wednesday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Zambezia, 62; Sofala, 53; Gaza, 43; Tete, 39; Maputo city, 38; Nampula, 19; Cabo Delgado, 16; Niassa, 15; Inhambane, 14; Maputo province, four; and Manica, one.
The Ministry release also reported that over the previous 24 hours, a further 4,802 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. The number of people fully vaccinated against the disease currently stands at 14,603,058, which is 96 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.
