Mozambique: ExxonMobil donates computers to eight Pemba secondary schools
Twenty-seven defendants go to trial on September 12 in Maputo, accused of embezzling 170 million meticais (EUR 2.3 million) from the Agricultural Development Fund (FDA), judicial sources announced yesterday.
Among the defendants is Setina Titosse, former chairperson of the FDA, who was detained and later released on bail, according to the same sources quoted by the Mozambican newspaper Notícias.
Judicial authorities have seized ten properties In connection with the case, which is being investigated by the Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC), including two in the tourist resort of Bilene, plus seven vehicles, cattle and money.
The Pubic Prosecutor has accused former FDA chairperson of acting with others to create fake agricultural projects and granting money to finance them.
Part of the funding would be used to purchase livestock and some allegedly deposited in banks and then transferred into the former chairperson’s account.
The former FDA chairperson is also accused of having authorised the payment of holiday subsidies without there being any legal basis for such disbursements.
