Mozambique: More than 300 Cabo Delgado schools not functioning after Cyclone Chido

The Mozambican health authorities on Tuesday reported a further 27 cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, and 23 recoveries.
According to a Tuesday press release from the Ministry of Health, 18 of the new cases were women and nine were men. Their ages varied between one and 70 years.
The positive cases were scattered across the country. Maputo city reported eight cases, while there were four in Nampula, four in Inhambane, three each in Tete and Zambezia, two in Cabo Delgado, two in Maputo province, and one in Sofala. No positive cases were reported from the other three provinces.
Since the start of the pandemic, 1,365,051 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 656 of them in the previous 24 hours. 629 of these tests yielded negative results, and the 27 who tested positive raised the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 229,411.
The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) fell slightly from 4.57 per cent on Monday to 4.12 per cent on Tuesday.
No Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital on Tuesday, and one new case was admitted, in Maputo City. The number of patients under medical care in the Covid-19 wards rose from 10 on Monday to 11 on Tuesday. Three of these patients were in Niassa, three in Maputo, and one each in Cabo Delgado, Zambezia, Manica, Sofala and Inhambane.
Of the 23 recoveries announced on Tuesday, 12 were from Cabo Delgado, eight from Zambezia and three from Manica. The total number of recoveries rose to 226,831, which is 98.88 per cent of all cases of Covid-19 ever diagnosed in Mozambique.
The number of active cases of Covid-19 rose from 357 on Monday to 361 on Tuesday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Sofala, 88; Zambezia, 55; Nampula, 42; Gaza, 38; Inhambane, 35; Tete, 32; Maputo city, 31; Cabo Delgado, 16; Niassa, 13; Maputo province, 10; and Manica, one.
The Ministry release also reported that over the previous 24 hours, a further 922 people were vaccinated against Covid-19. The number of people fully vaccinated against the disease currently stands at 14,598,335, which is 96 per cent of all citizens aged 18 and above.
