Another 26 citizens suspected of being infected with Covid-19 and tested by Mozambican health authorities have come back negative, but the pandemic continues to spread across the African continent, with more than 700 infected in 34 countries and 17 deaths recorded.
Up until yesterday, Thursday 19 March, the National Institute of Health (INS) had tested another 26 suspected cases of the new coronavirus, all of which came back negative, bringing the cumulative number of tests performed in Mozambique to 35.

In Africa, the latest assessment indicates the existence of 729 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus and 17 deaths. Mauritius is the latest country to identify infected citizens (three). Egypt has a cumulative of 210 infected individuals; South Africa has 150. Seven deaths occurred in Algeria, six in Egypt, two in Morocco, one in Burkina Faso and one in Sudan. The World Health Organisation has warned that continent must now “prepare for the worst”, as there are more and more cases of local transmission.

In the rest of the world, while China entered its second day without any new local infections; Europe has 10,221 new Covid-19 patients and 591 dead, 427 of them in Italy and registered on Thursday (19) alone. The American continent registered 4,166 new infections and 50 deaths.
