The number of people detained over the vandalisation of the police station in the village of Maciana, Manhiça district, Maputo province, is still rising.
A total of twenty-four individuals have now seen their arrests legalised following involvement in actions which, in addition to the vandalisation of the police station, culminated in the destruction of the Administrative Secretariat headquarters, from where computer equipment was also stolen.
The case occurred at the end of last month, when a PRM officer assigned to that police unit left his job to drink alcohol in the company of a friend, after which the pair undertook illegal patrols and stopped a citizen on the public road.
This prompted popular anger, and a crowd followed the two accomplices to the police station, where, in addition to vandalising the building, they set fire to a vehicle.
Manhiça district public prosecutor Rosa Langa said that the search for people suspected of involvement in the incident was ongoing.
