Mozambique has secured UD$23 million for economic and social development projects in the provinces of Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Niassa in the north of the country, the Agency for Integrated Development of the North (ADIN) announced on Thursday.
“We have a large number of projects financed by various organisations, (including, among others) the World Bank and UNDP (United Nations Development Program). All of these projects are currently being coordinated by ADIN. (…) There is US$23 million [in spending] currently planned for the north,” ADIN chairman Jacinto Loureiro told the media during the laying of the foundation stone for the agency’s office in Nampula.
According to Loureiro, the projects to be developed in northern Mozambique aim to “solve the problems of the population”, especially those of victims of armed attacks carried out in Cabo Delgado by insurgent groups since 2017.

ADIN was officially launched on 31 August, 2020, by the Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi, with the aim of reducing serious regional asymmetries by promoting development in the provinces of Niassa, Cabo Delgado and Nampula.
The most recent figures indicate that those three provinces have the highest poverty rates in the country, with Niassa at 67%, Nampula at 65% and Cabo Delgado at 53%, against a national average of 43%.
