The Ressano Garcia border post, in Maputo province, registered, in the last 24 hours, a great movement of Mozambicans . O País reports: They return to the country due to the lockdown about to start in South Africa to contain the coronavirus pandemic . A total of 23,000 Mozambicans crossed into the country in the last 24 hours.
Editor’s note: @Verdade reports on Friday that 7,000 had crossed the border in 24 hours, not 23,000.

On the Ressano border today, it was possible to see a line of cars waiting to cross to Mozambique more than seven kilometres long. It was also possible to observe true unrest.
All other border posts with South Africa are closed since March 18. This is the only possible point of entry until midnight today.
With the lockdown announced in South Africa and consequent suspension of activities, Mozambicans working in South Africa saw no other option but to coe back home, O País reports.
On site, a team of Mozambican health technicians proceeds with the screening. A process that, for the newly arrived, is worth facing because the situation in South Africa is not the best and so they prefer to protect themselves against the disease by coming home, even because work can wait.
Some, O País reports, have already informed the family to reserve a place for their quarantine, as a way to avoid possible contamination.
Just to have an idea of how this lockdown affects Mozambique, all the mines in South Africa have also been closed.
However, non-resident South Africans are not allowed to enter Mozambique and the same applies to national citizens who wish to go to South Africa but are not residents in the neighbouring country.
Migration authorities are working to ease traffic and allow Mozambicans to return safely.
It should be noted that the South African Government has also decided to cancel Easter celebrations as a way to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
