Mozambique and Angola strengthen cooperation in the Tourism sector

Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (Mozambique Airlines – LAM) carried more than 600,000 passengers in 2023, figures released by the Mozambican state-owned carrier on Monday (01-01) show.
According to LAM, regional traffic grew 48% from 75,481 passengers in 2022 to 111,335 from January to November, and domestic traffic grew 2% in the same period, to 490,132 passengers.
Globally, from January to November, LAM reports having transported 601,467 passengers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year
LAM’s best routes in 2023 were Maputo – Beira (35,352 passengers), followed by Nampula – Maputo (35,221 passengers) and Beira – Maputo (35,074 passengers).
The company also reports having improved operational punctuality from 73% in 2022 (January to December) to 78% in 2023 (January to November).
LAM’s flight network covers 12 destinations in the domestic market plus Johannesburg, Dar-Es-Salaam, Harare, Lusaka and Cape Town regionally. It offers more than 40 flights daily using one Boeing 737, three Bombardier Q400, two Bombardier CRJ 900 and two Embraer 145 operated by the subsidiary MEX – Moçambique Expresso.
The new destinations Cape Town (South Africa) and Lisbon, launched in December, are part of the operator’s revitalization plan launched after the South African company Fly Modern Ark (FMA) took over the management of LAM in April, 2023.
LAM intends to double its aircraft fleet to at least 22 planes by 2027, the administration of the Mozambican flag carrier told Lusa previously.
