More than 200 hectares of various crops are reported to have been lost in Manhiça municipality, Maputo province, due to flooding in the region since Saturday.
A total of 1,800 hectares are affected by the floods resulting from the rise in the flow of the Incomati River.
Councillor for Economic Activities in the municipality of Manhiça, José Manusse, says that the problem is affecting more than 370 producing families who will need to be assisted with seeds and other support to face the second agricultural growing season.
“What is currently happening is a rise in the flow of the Incomati River and consequently the water overflows and enters the fields,” Manusse explained.
