Mozambique: Japan pledges to continue supporting victims of terrorism

President Filipe Nyusi on Tuesday granted 1,529 persons the Medal for Veterans of the Liberation Struggle of Mozambique, and distinguished 15 others with honorary orders and medals of merit.
A statement from the Presidency of the Republic notes that the Medal for Veterans of the Liberation Struggle of Mozambique is awarded in recognition of the active participation of national citizens in the struggle for the liberation of the Mozambican homeland, on the fronts of armed or clandestine struggle and of diplomatic combat, of information and of propaganda.
The distinction is also given to the protagonists “of the battle for the triumph of national independence, as well as of the selfless effort to value the achievements of Mozambicanity and national development”.
Filipe Nyusi also awarded honorary orders and medals of merit to 15 personalities from the political, sports, cultural, and science and technology fields.

All of the above mentioned medals are awarded on the occasion of the Armed Forces of Defence of Mozambique Day, which marks the beginning, on September 25, 1964, of the national liberation struggle against Portuguese colonialism.
The imposition of insignia on these and other personalities will take place on September 25, during the celebration of the Armed Forces of Defence of Mozambique Day.
To that end, President Nyusi determined, through a presidential order, to delegate powers to the secretaries of state of the city of Maputo and of all the other provinces in the country, the note from the Presidency reads.
