Mozambican Prime Minister Benvinda Levi has revealed that the government approved, during the first six months of this year, 115 investment projects budgeted at about five billion US dollars.
According to the Prime Minister, who was speaking on Sunday at the closing ceremony of the 60th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM 2025), the authorized projects have the potential to generate approximately 17,000 jobs.
“Among the planned projects, Green Energy Mozambique stands out. The project is budgeted at three billion dollars and it has the potential of generating 10,000 jobs”, she said.
Levi explained that Green Energy Mozambique is a project that aims to build and manage an industrial park composed of mineral processing units for the production of titanium dioxide, aluminum, steel, batteries, among others, and should be implemented in the central province of Sofala.
“National direct investment totaled approximately 144 million dollars, representing 3.65 per cent of private investment, in the first half of this year. Foreign direct investment, which came from 25 countries, reached over 3.2 billion dollars, representing 82.55 per cent of total approved investment”, she said.
According to Levi, the investments largely benefit the sectors of industry, transport, and communications.
The Prime Minister believes that the data show positive signs of a gradual recovery in economic activity, after a period of contraction recorded in the fourth quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of this year. “Among the factors that led to the economic contraction, climate shocks and the post-election tension stand out”, she said.
