Eleven civilians were murdered in terrorist attacks in Mueda and Macomia districts, Cabo Delgado province, on Friday and Saturday, Carta de Moçambique reports – four in Mueda district and seven in Macomia.
Carta sources report that three individuals were murdered in Nachitenje, Mueda district, after a group of 20 armed men armed with machetes and firearms invaded the village on Friday morning.
In Nachitenje, the group took several hostages, stole food and burned down homes. The terrorists reportedly also dismembered a motorcycle taxi driver, stealing his motorbike and the money he was carrying.
Carta sources report that the terrorists attacked three villages in N’Gapa administrative post in Mueda district over the weekend. Three terrorists, including one “child soldier”, were killed by joint Rwandan and Mozambican troops.
Murders in Macomia
In Macomia, seven people were murdered by terrorists in village of Nanjaba – known locally as Nambine. Three of the bodies were burned on Friday night, including a child and an elderly person. On Sunday, four more bodies were found in a ‘machamba’.
According to Carta sources, the insurgents attacked Nanjaba village at around 10:00 p.m., burning down huts and seizing various goods, particularly foodstuffs.
Terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado province continue to be claimed by the Islamic State terrorist group (ISCAP). Al Nusra has again issued communiqués claiming terrorist attacks last week including an assault on Defence and Security Forces (FDS) munitions supplies and the murder of a Mozambican soldier and a spy in Muidumbe district.
Meanwhile, the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) announced last Thursday that it had destroyed three terrorist bases located north of Lake Nguri and on the banks of the Muera River in Macomia district. It also claimed to have seized war material.
Carta sources also say that fifteen terrorists were killed in the villages V Congresso, Nova Zambézia and Nova Vida in Macomia district in an ambush by Defence and Security Forces (FDS) and militia last Thursday.
One Mozambican soldier was killed and three were injured during the clashes.
