Mozambique: 1.7 million more Covid vaccine doses in May and why Mavalane infirmary has not opened yet – Noticias report

By the end of May, Mozambique will have received 1.7 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine under the COVAX initiative.

The figure was announced this Thursday morning (11-03) by Minister of Health Armindo Tiago, who was answering questions put by deputies of the Assembly of the Republic on the second and last day of the executive’s report.

‘Noticias’ quotes Tiago as saying the “the country will immunise all citizens” in subsequent phases of the vaccination campaign.

A vaccinated person will not, if by chance contaminated, develop serious forms of the disease, but even so will be duty-bound to continue to adhere to preventive measures, because minors and pregnant women will not be able to be vaccinated, the minister stressed.

“We want to remind deputies that Africa has 54 countries. Mozambique is the seventh country to receive vaccines from China, it is the 13th African country to start a vaccination campaign and the 15th to receive vaccines under the COVAX initiative, because the country is firm in the fight against Covid-19,” Minister Tiago said.

Hospital beds

The minister explained that hospitalisation capacity at Polana-Caniço General Hospital stands at 120 beds, at Mavalane General Hospital there are 320 and at Maputo Central Hospital (HCM) 214. Occupancy rate in the Maputo Central Hospital is 49%, and in the province of Maputo it is 28% , so the Mavalane infirmary has not yet been opened.

Staying in the health sector, Tiago guaranteed to repair the damaged tomography machine at Quelimane Central Hospital within 90 days. Each province received a digital X-ray machine, to replace the older analogue ones for which material is scarce.

As for resumption of face-to-face classes, the minister maintained that “students, teachers and members of the administrative staff infected with Covid-19 during the reopening of schools were not contaminated in the educational institutions themselves, so the reopening of classes was ordered”.

The minister also answered questions about the rehabilitation of the mortuary at Maputo Central Hospital , and at the general hospitals and several health centres.

Mais 1.7 milhões de vacinas da Covid-19 chegam em Maio

Moçambique vai receber, até Maio próximo, 1.7 milhões de doses de vacinas contra a covid-19, no âmbito da iniciativa COVAX, para a campanha nacional de vacinação em curso no país.

O facto foi anunciado na manhã de hoje (11) pelo Ministro da Saúde, Armindo Tiago, quando respondia às questões de insistência dos deputados da Assembleia da República, no segundo e último dia do informe do executivo.

Tiago salientou que, nas fases subsequentes da campanha de vacinação o país vai imunizar a todos cidadãos. “Queremos dizer que até Maio, nós vamos receber 1.7 milhões de vacinas do mecanismo COVAX”, anunciou.

A pessoa vacinada, se por ventura for contaminada não poderá desenvolver formas graves da doença ou morte, por isso, mesmo depois da vacinação é fundamental continuar a verificar as medidas de prevenção, porque menores e mulheres grávidas não poderão tomar, sublinhou.

“Queremos lembrar aos deputados que África possui 54 países. Moçambique é o sétimo país a receber vacinas da China, é o 13º país africano a iniciar com a campanha de vacinação e 15º a receber imunizantes no âmbito da iniciativa COVAX, por que o país está firme no combate a Covid-19”, refere.

Tiago explicou que a capacidade de internamento do Hospital Geral da Polana-Caniço é de 120 camas, 320 lugares no Hospital Geral de Mavalane e 214 no Hospital Central de Maputo, com uma taxa de ocupação de 49 % no HCM e 28% na província de Maputo, por isso ainda não abriu a enfermaria de Mavalane.

Ainda no sector, Tiago garantiu a reparação dentro de 90 dias, da máquina de tomografia avariada no Hospital Central de Quelimane. Cada província recebeu máquina digital de Raio X, para a substituição das analógicas cujo material escasseia no mercado.

“Os estudantes, docentes e membros do corpo administrativo infectados pela covid-19, durante a reabertura das escolas, não está relacionada com contaminações nas instituições de ensino, por isso, ordenou-se a reabertura das aulas”, frisou.

Falou igualmente da reabilitação das câmaras da morgue do Hospital Central de Maputo, e dos hospitais gerais e de diversos centros de saúde.
