Mozambican students won 42 of the 76 scholarships offered by the Brazilian government in 2016 under the Student-Postgraduate Agreement Programme (PEC-PG), according to a statement released yesterday by the embassy of Brazil in Mozambique.
The Brazilian government allocates these scholarships to citizens of developing countries with which it has educational cooperation agreements for postgraduate courses (masters and doctorates) in Brazilian higher education institutions.
The PEC-PG programme, initiated in 1981, covers students from countries in Africa, the Americas and Asia.
“This is the result of a joint effort by the Brazilian and Mozambican governments in the area of research and academic training, which is also reflected in the labour market, where qualifications of professionals trained in Brazil are recognized,” the statement says.
Throughout 2016, the Centro Cultural Brasil-Moçambique held lectures and meetings to inform and assist Mozambican students interested in participating in the selection process, whose main criterion is the potential of the student’s research to contribute to his or her country’s development.
PEC-PG students can choose the course and the university they want to attend, pay no tuition fees and receive a scholarship for the duration of the course. Upon completion, diplomas are awarded with all the necessary requirements for being recognized by the Mozambican government.
According to the statement, students interested in participating in the next PEC-PG round must enroll by March 6 for the mandatory Celpe-Bras 2017 (certification test of Portuguese proficiency for foreigners). Enrollment for the Undergraduate Student-Arrangement Program (PEC-G) will begin in May.
