President Filipe Nyusi on Sunday held a meeting with the Mozambican community in France, on the margins of his participation in the African Economies Financing Summit in Paris, on the 18th of this month.
The Mozambicans resident in France took the opportunity to present their concerns, highlighting the situation in Cabo Delgado and the level of containment of Covid-19 in Mozambique.
In response to the concerns raised, the Mozambican president started by saying that the situation in Mozambique was relatively stable, explaining that ″relatively stable because the three branches [of government – executive, legislative and judiciary] are fully functioning, although there are localised foci of conflict. But I say that our peace project in Mozambique is underway and on a good trajectory″.
President Nyusi added that the government had mobilised resources to help the displaced, through humanitarian support, and that there is even a government programme in progress (the Integrated Development Agency of the North – ADIN) which aims to develop work opportunities for women and the youth and promote development in that part of the country.
Regarding the Covid-19 situation in the country, the head of state said that the government continued to do everything to control the outbreak without sacrificing the economy and while avoiding a total lockdown.
″As a result of the tightening of the measures, although we do not like some of them, a fall in the number of new infections and deaths is being seen in the country, and this is a victory for us,″ the president explained.
