Mozambique: Military solution won't solve Cabo Delgado problem - Catholic Church
The Brazilian Embassy in Mozambique says that more than half the overseas students selected to participate in the Postgraduate Agreement Program (PEC-PG) in Brazil in 2018 are Mozambicans.
The PEC-PG is the longest-running postgraduate scholarship program offered by the Brazilian government and since 1981 has trained thousands of masters and doctors.
Of the 43 doctoral students in the current intake, 23 are from Mozambique.
“The selected students, mostly from the African continent and Latin America, are admitted to free, public Brazilian universities for master’s and doctoral courses lasting 24 and 48 months respectively,” a note from the embassy reads.
In addition to tuition, candidates receive a bursary of about US$700 per month.
The 2018 figures make Mozambique the main beneficiary of the PEC-PG. More than 150 Mozambicans have been admitted to PhD courses funded by the programme over the past five years.
The 23 students accepted for next year will pursue research in fields from psychology to meteorology, education, business and engineering.
