An online survey conducted by the International Centre of Strategic Studies at the Higher Institute of International Relations and just released concludes that Mozambican youth is disenchanted with politics.
The study was conducted between the months of May and June 2016, with a thousand young people aged between 15 and 35 years sampled across the country.
Paul Wache, one of the study coordinators, revealed that about 60 percent of young people surveyed put some kind entertainment like cinema, music, cooking or others at the top of their list of priorities, and relegate participating in political events to 10th place.
But another researcher in the study, Irae Lundin, says the numbers could have another meaning – that the lack of interest is in fact more to do with politicians, and that interest in political action still prevails.
The study was conducted by the International Center for Strategic Studies in partnership with the Foundation for European Progressive Studies and the Friedrich Herbert Foundation.
