Mozambican who escaped from BO Prison in December arrested in South Africa

Mozambican Nelson Simão Massango, who escaped from Maputo’s Maximum Security Penitentiary (BO) in December, was arrested by South African police in Sandton earlier this week.
According to the police, Nelson Massango was arrested at a car rental dealership north of the city of Johannesburg. He is suspected of involvement in the theft of cars in the South African province of Gauteng, which are then smuggled into Mozambique.
Nelson Massango, one of more than 1,500 prisoners who escaped from the BO last December, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Mozambique for a murder committed in 2015.
