Bank of Mozambique says banks are solid, capitalized and resilient
On a working visit to the Far East, Mozambican Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita has held meetings with government official and public and private companies in Japan, reviewing several Japanese-funded projects underway in Mozambique, with particular emphasis on phases 2 and 3 of the emergency rehabilitation of the port of Nacala in Nampula, reports Radio Moçambique.
Other projects mentioned by the minister to the press upon his arrival in Maputo included funding for two new meteorological radars, port construction in Angoche, acquisition of passenger ferries, the rehabilitation of aviation and nautical sciences schools and a study of the possibility of introducing electric-powered passenger trains.
While in Japan, Mesquita also held meetings with several officials from Japanese companies operating in Mozambique, including Mitsui, who are engaged in the development of liquefied natural gas in the Rovuma basin and the Nacala integrated logistics corridor; Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, involved in the Revubué coal mines; Marubeni Corporation, which is interested in investing in the textile industry in Mozambique and the production of methanol from natural gas in the Rovuma basin; JGC Corporation in the construction and LNG scetors; and the engineering company Chiyoda Corporation, also wishing to invest in LNG development.
“Japanese authorities expressed their openness to examining the possibility of implementing the projects that we presented,” Mesquita said.”We have four pillars whose implementation will stimulate rapid economic growth in the country: agriculture, energy, infrastructure and tourism,” stressed the minister.
