A 75-year-old man has been arrested by the Mozambican police in Maputo province’s Matutuíne district, accused of imprisoning a 15-year-old girl and turning her into his sex slave. Another girl reportedly escaped a similar fate after going to the suspect’s home, where a job had been promised.
According to police spokesman Fernando Manhiça, the girl had been lured from Chibuto, in Gaza province, with promises of employment after negotiations with her family, who little suspected the humiliation to which she was about to be subjected.
The girl told police authorities and journalists that the man was always demanding that she have sex with him. If she refused, she would be beaten and her anus burned with charcoal in order to persuade her.
By the time the girl was rescued, she had evidence of having been subjected to physical assault over almost her entire body.
Another girl who managed to escape the hands of the alleged sex offender and predator told the police that the man had tried to rape her.
In addition to accusing the man of sexual abuse and growing cannabis, the corporation suspects him of human trafficking.
The citizen admitted that he had imprisoned the girl and subjected her to physical aggression in order to coerce her into having sex with him. He said he produced cannabis to survive.
According to him, cannabis, whose production and consumption is banned in Mozambique, is drought resistant. Police recovered more than 300 kilograms of the drug from his residence.
The police have also detained two females in connection with the recruiting of the two victims.
