‘Proof of life’ tests for Mozambican pensioners will run from April to June this year and not from January to March as in previous years, the National Social Security Institute of Mozambique (INSS) announced on Thursday.
A statement distributed in Maputo on Thursday states that the change is related to the introduction of improvements in the social security system.
In 2017, the INSS submitted 164,000 pensioners throughout the country to biometric proof of life testing, detecting thousands of illegitimate pension payouts and immediately removing the spurious beneficiaries from the country’s social security system.
The Mozambican government uses the proof of life test as a way to eliminate “ghost pensioners” and combat fraud in the system.
