Mozambique: Government concerned about reducing the price of essential products

The National Social Security Institute of Mozambique (INSS) has suspended the payment of 9,052 pensions to beneficiaries who failed to present themselves at proof of life tests between April 26 to July 26, the agency has announced.
“The INSS has suspended the payment of the pensions of the 9,052 pensioners who did not attend the Annual Proof of Life [PAV], which means that they will not receive their pensions as of August,” the INSS said in a statement distributed today in Maputo .
Under current regulations, pensioners who do not regularise their situation within six months from the month of suspension will not be entitled to retroactive payment.
“The INSS appeals to the pensioners in question to regularise their situation with at their district or provincial office,” the press release reads.
The INSS indicates that the biometric PAV system now covers a total of 63,486 pensioners,
88 percent of the total of 72,538 pensioners that the National Social Security Institute (INSS) planned to cover during the three months of implementation.
the process, which, for the first time, became biometric, in the context of the modernisation and computerisation of services.
The computerised, biometric PAV system covers old-age, invalidity and survivors’ pensions, including spouses and children under 18 years or up to 25 years of age, provided they are in high school or higher education, respectively.
