Mozambique’s National Social Security Institute (INSS) is to extend until May 5 the national campaign to collect corporate social security arrears, the agency has announced.
The extension of the deadline is aimed at “allowing the interpellation of a greater number of companies liable for contributions by the inspection teams”, the statement reads.
The teams are made up of technicians from the INSS and the General Inspectorate of Labour.
The nationwide billing campaign which started country wide on March 22 was scheduled to end on April 22.
Of the 81,170 taxpayers enrolled in the INSS at national level, 19,235 are in arrears, representing 23.6 percent of the total.
Collection actions carried out in 2016 by the INSS, in coordination with the General Inspectorate of Labour, netted a total of 280.6 million meticais (EUR 3.9 million).
It is estimated that about 718 million meticais (EUR 10 million) of debt has accumulated since the creation of the social security payment system in Mozambique.
