Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has sent a message of condolences to Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei following the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and several others in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
In the message, Nyusi expressed the deep sadness and shock felt by the people and government of Mozambique upon learning of the accident that claimed the lives of Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, members of the Iranian government, and the crew.
“The death of these prominent leaders constitutes a great loss, not only for the people and government of Iran but also for our country, which has developed friendly relations and cooperation with their contribution,” Nyusi said in the message released on Tuesday.
“At this moment of consternation, I would like, on behalf of the people, the government of Mozambique and myself, to express our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the government, and the bereaved families,” Nyusi added.

According to Iran’s state-run IRIB TV, Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday. The helicopter, carrying the president and other officials, was forced into a hard landing due to bad weather in the northwestern province of East Azerbaijan.
