Mozambican police commander-in-chief Bernardino Rafael said security companies providing services to embassies in Mozambique are moving weapons irregularly without informing the police.
“The circulation of arms obeys rules, a fact that is not always complied with by security companies at the service of these institutions. They cannot move them without the consent of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM),” daily newspaper Noticias quotes him as saying after a meeting with companies in the sector.
According to the newspaper, the police commander denounced “systematic breaches of norms” and added that the PRM would “penalise violators”, without adding further details.
At the same meeting, the head of the Mozambican police also complained about the lack of communication regarding the transport of money.
“All security companies have an obligation to inform the police, because we know there are schemes set up to facilitate the theft of such money,” he said.
