Mozambican Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário yesterday urged the country’s team at the CPLP Sports Games to stand out by dint of their discipline, honour their country during the competition and bring home some medals.
“What I ask is that you bring home some medals – in fact, the President of the Republic has demanded that you bring home some medals,” Agostinho do Rosario told the Mozambican delegation at a farewell ceremony.
The CPLP Games take place from 12 to 24 of this month in Sal, Cape Verde.
Each of the 68 athletes representing Mozambique, Agostinho do Rosário said, was ready to shoulder the great responsibility of acting as ambassador for the 25 million Mozambicans they represent.
“Behave with discipline on and off the field. Your selection to participate in the games is proof that you are the best of the best,” he said. On the home front, Mozambicans had high hopes and would be cheering the country’s delegation on.
The Mozambican delegation to the competition consists of athletes aged between 14 and 16 years who will compete in football, handball, athletics, basketball, taekwondo and beach volleyball.
