Muslim leaders in Nampula have called for the sacrifices made on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, celebrated this Tuesday, to effect the forgiveness and remission of sins so that Mozambicans can live in peace, tranquillity and well-being.
Thousands of believers were present at the 25 de Setembro stadium for the celebration of Eid-al-Adha, and Mayor of Nampula, Paulo Vahanle, took the opportunity to invite citizens to unite and to support progress in the municipality with their advice.
The Muslim community, challenged to adopt a posture guided by the values of their religion, has once again condemned those who allegedly use religion for illicit and criminal purposes or attempt to impose doctrine in the name of Islam.
Instability in Cabo Delgado did not go unnoticed. It is being used by individuals as an opportunity to carry out acts contrary to Islam in the name of the very same religion, according to the speaker.
Eid al-Adha, or the feast of sacrifice, follows the pilgrimage to Mecca, and is celebrated by Muslims all over the world in memory of the prophet Ibraim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael.
Mozambique’s province of Nampula has the highest concentration of Muslim citizens.
