A 40-year-old man has been arrested and appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court following his alleged involvement in the murder and kidnapping of a 35-year-old Mozambican national last week.
The body of the Mozambican man was found last Thursday morning lying in a veld off the R23 in Glen Marais, Kempton Park. His feet and hands were bound and he also had severe head injuries as well as a gunshot wound.
A farmworker in the area had stumbled across the body and called police.
Kempton Park police spokesperson Captain Jethro Mtshali said that after thorough investigations, Emmanuel Xivite was arrested after the Mozambican man’s vehicle was found abandoned in Tembisa on Friday afternoon.
“It is alleged that the victim was robbed and kidnapped by four suspects in Olifantsfontein. He was driving a Ford Ranger.
“The police have been working tirelessly and found the abandoned car in Tembisa but the other three suspects are still at large,” said Mtshali.
“After being questioned, it was found that the suspect was a co-worker of the victim. Xivite’s first court appearance resulted in the matter being postponed to August 28.”
