Mozambique: Three of the criminals shot in Matola identified - AIM report
A 19-year-old Mozambican woman has narrated how she was allegedly trafficked to Swaziland by her mother, who then offered her to different men for sex in return for money.
The mother is also a Mozambican national.
The mother (38), who has since been charged for contravening the People Trafficking and People Smuggling (Prohibition) Act, allegedly took her to a number of bars around the country, where she offered her to different men for sex, in return for money.
One of the ‘customers’ is alleged to have paid a sum of E1 300 to the mother of the complainant after she had offered her to him for sexual intercourse.
It is further alleged that the mother also forced her to take alcohol and smoke. She also accused the mother of assaulting her when she fell in love.
These are allegations that are yet to verified in a court of law.
The name of the complainant and the accused (mother) will not be mentioned as the People Trafficking and People Smuggling Act prohibits the naming of survivors by the media, when reporting on such cases. Disclosing the name of the accused would automatically reveal the name of the complainant.
According to an indictment filed by Principal Crown Counsel Lomvula Hlophe, the mother unlawfully recruited and transported the complainant from Mozambique to Swaziland for purposes of sexual exploitation.
She is alleged to have deceived her that she would enroll her in a school in Swaziland, yet she knew that was incorrect.
The mother is alleged to have facilitated the continued presence of the complainant in Swaziland, in order to obtain financial or material benefit.
Narrating how it all happened, the complainant alleged that her mother told her that she was taking her to Swaziland, where she would enroll her in a school to study English.
In her summary of evidence, the complainant alleged that they used public transport to Swaziland.
