A 36-year-old woman gave birth to four babies, a girl and three boys, in Nampula central hospital on the 28th of January.
Of the four, the girl weighed 1,500 grams, one boy weighed 1,400 grams and the other two boys 1,700 grams each. Delivery was by Caesarean section, and all were in good health, attending doctor Eduardo Correia said.
Júlia Luis had spent years hoping for a little brother for her seven-year-old first-born daughter. Now fortune has given her four siblings at once.
“It’s a huge satisfaction!” husband Luís Joaquim enthused.
The mother said that despite being very happy, “taking care of four babies without a job is difficult. I’m appealing for help (…)”.
Doctor Correia noted another rarity in the case: “Each foetus was in its own amniotic cavity,” he said.
“It is a very rare occurrence, resulting from ovulation induction in the course of infertility treatment,” the gynaecologist-cum-obstetrician noted. He attended on the mother throughout the course of her pregnancy and right up until her delivery.
