Mozambique: GEF to disburse 4.8 million dollars for e-waste management
Three suspects in their early 30s are expected to appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court, in South Africa, on Tuesday for possession of rhino horns.
The trio’s appearance in court stems from their arrests at a petrol station in Brits west of Pretoria in North by the Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Crime Intelligence on Saturday after a tip-off that one of the suspects‚ a Mozambican national‚ was seen in possession of rhino horns.
“According to information‚ the suspects’ vehicle‚ a white Mercedes Benz with North West registration number‚ was spotted and stopped around Elandsrand for a search.
“During the search‚ four pieces of rhino horns were found inside the boot. The three occupants could not give a clear explanation or account for the horns and were then arrested‚” said North West police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone.
