Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, has recognized that despite government efforts to develop the country, natural disasters and crime continue to take its toll in Mozambique, APA learns here on Thursday.
Addressing the opening of the ordinary session of the Central Committee of the ruling Frelimo party, his first as head of state, President Nyusi condemned the recent waves of murders, the latest of whose victims included a senior national attorney and a high level Renamo member.
The Frelimo central committee is discussing the current political and military crisis in Mozambique and the country’s economic situation. It is also to decide on the dates and venue of the party’s next congress.
“Frelimo vehemently condemns the barbaric murders of Renamo member, Jose Manuel, member of the National Council of Defense and Security, in Beira, and of Judge Marcelino Vilankulo, from the Attorney General’s office here in Matola.
“Frelimo encourages the defense and security forces to continue to look at ways to rapidly explain these macabre acts,” he said.
President Nyusi went on to talk about the heavy rains that recent hit northern and central Mozambique, accompanied by strong winds and lightning.
On the other hand, he said some parts of central and southern Mozambique were also affected by drought and hunger. In both cases, he said, there were losses of crops and cattle, destruction of houses and diverse infrastructure.
