Speaking yesterday in Luanda, Mozambique Attorney General Beatriz Buchili said the Mozambican judiciary had opened cases regarding all attacks on the roads assigned to Renamo (Mozambique National Resistance),
Answering questions put by news agency Lusa, Buchili, who is on a six-day working visit to Angola, said that “all attacks are being investigated” and that cases have already been opened.
“We will respond appropriately to these occurrences,” the attorney general said, promising to provide the exact number of cases under investigation in her annual report to the current session of parliament.
“But, because they are crimes, we have responded properly to all events that have been reported,” Buchili reiterated.
Renamo has neither confirmed or denied responsibility for the recent attacks on Mozambique’s main highway.
The Attorney General Beatriz Buchili started on Monday an official 6-day visit to Angola.
The visit falls within the context of strengthening the relations of cooperation between the Attorney Generals of both countries and for the exchange of experiences in various areas of action of the respective judiciaries.
In Angola, Beatriz Buchii will be received by president José Eduardo dos Santos, and hold courtesy meetings with the Presidents of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court and the Court of Auditors, as well as with the Angolan Minister of Justice Rui Mangueira.
During her stay, the Attorney general will visit the provinces of Benguela and Lobito where she will hold exchange meetings with local organs of administration of justice.
