The Mozambican government has approved on Tuesday the granting of subsidy to state employees who are in pre-trial detention.
According to Ana Comoane, government spokesperson, the subsidy is intended to ensure the maintenance for dependants of an official or agent of the state in custody, by virtue of the principle of presumption of innocence, enshrined in the constitution of the republic.
“It is an instrument that has taken into account the principle of presumption of innocence”, said the spokeswoman of the Council of Ministers of Mozambique.
The spokesperson for the Council of Ministers spoke at the end of the fourth regular session of the organ in Maputo.
Under the new regulation, the families of agents or state employees under pre-trial detention are entitled to a subsidy corresponding to 60 percent of the worker’s basic salary.
The allowance must be requested by a family member designated by the state agent or employee in custody.
