Mozambique: Beira street rehabilitation project to acquire its own asphalt production equipment

The Mozambican government will concession to private operators the Maputo Ring Road, the Mozambican capital’s largest highway in, and the Maputo-Katembe Bridge connecting the two banks of the city bay, it was announced today.
The Maputo South Development Company, the state entity in charge of both projects, states in a communique issued today that the Maputo Ring Road and the Maputo-Katembe Bridge will be managed in partnership between private entities and the state, through concession agreements.
“The competition is governed by the Public Private Partnerships Law for large projects and business concessions,” the announcement reads.
In addition to the two infrastructures, the Mozambican Government also intends to concession the small roads that will flow into the Maputo Ring Road.
With 50-kilometre sections and six bridges, the Maputo Ring Road will be the capital’s largest highway. Its construction costs of more than US$300 million was funded through China’s Exim Bank.
At just over three kilometres long, the Maputo-Katembe Bridge will be one of the largest suspension bridges in Africa, and was budgeted at over US$700 million, also financed by China.
Although the Maputo Ring Road is already in use, the two projects will be formally inaugurated this year,
