Namibia: President Mbumba’s attendance at Mozambican president’s inauguration still uncertain
The Mozambican government yesterday approved a proposal to revise the law of the National Defence and Security Council with a view to clarifying the composition and functioning of the body.
“Taking into account the dynamics of the country’s life,” the body will from now on include ministries “that were not previously contemplated”, namely the Ministry of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, spokeswoman Ana Comana told reporters at the end of the 34th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers.
The National Defence Council is a consultative body on matters related to Mozambican sovereignty and includes institutions related to the defence and security of the country, alongside the ministries of Economy and Finance and Foreign Affairs and Cooperaton.
The body’s regulations were written in 1996 and have not been revised since then.
The revision approved yesterday will also adjust certain legal details and clarify other situations, including circumstances in which members may be granted immunity. It was agreed that there was no incompatibility relating to participation in the organ, Comoana said.
