Mozambican government expels 10 DIC officials in 2018 over corruption claims

Ten National Directorate of Civil Identification (DIC) officials were expelled last year in connection with illicit collection schemes for obtaining identity cards.
In an interview with Radio Moçambique, Alberto Sumbane, the spokesman for the National Directorate of Civil Identification, said from 2018 to date, a thousand cases had been identified involving false identity cards held by citizens and 17 foreigners.
The National Directorate of Civil Identification last year issued about 1.2 million identity cards, representing a 10 per cent increase over the 2017 figure.
Sumbane hinted that a new German software provider would this quarter start operating to ensure a fast card acquisition process.
