The Mozambican government yesterday approved a decree providing for the creation of a permanent commission of inspection for higher education institutions in Mozambique, the spokeswoman for the Council of Ministers announced.
“The aim of this decree is to ensure permanent and continuous inspection,” Ana Comoana told journalists after the 11th session of the Council of Ministers in Maputo.
The objective, she said, was to ensure a proper functioning of these institutions, within the scope of government action to improve higher education in the country.
“The decree reinforces measures to monitor and supervise learner activity at higher education level,” she added, noting that the inspection of institutions in Mozambique was done “when necessary”, but that with the new decree it would become permanent, ensuring greater control.
In February, the Mozambican minister of Science, Technology, Higher Education and Professional Technician, Jorge Nhambiu, announced that out of a total of 130 higher education centres operating in the country, at least 28 were at risk of being closed because of their failure to comply with their own proposals or because of non-compliance with requirements.
These 28 were already forbidden to enrol new students for the 2018 academic year and had until October of this year to regularise their situation.
