Mozambique: Ireland to invest €5.4M in Niassa social infrastructure

In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Mozambican government has conveyed condolences to the families of the victims of the Barbeton road accident which claimed the lives of 10 Mozambicans and severely wounded 9 others.
The government statement says that it was with deep regret that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation received news of the tragic death of ten Mozambicans in a road accident on Wednesday 9 November in the village of Barbeton, forty-three kilometres from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.
The government statement says it is taking steps to identify the victims and assist the wounded and complete the procedures necessary for the transfer of the bodies and the comforting the families of the victims.
“In this difficult time of pain and mourning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation would like to express feelings of solidarity with the families of the deceased and those injured, to convey its heartfelt condolences to bereaved families and to wish for a speedy recovery of those hospitalized,” the statement reads.
Mozambique’s diplomatic and consular missions in Pretoria and Neilspruit and South African police authorities have so far been able to identify nine of the 10 people killed as Amélia Francisco Muando, “Martha”, Ester Jordão Gemo, Luís Azevedo Chope, Sérgio Xavier Mandlate, Franstino Lucas Vilanculos, Sérgio Fabião Pelembe, José Daniel Manhique and Mario Artur Ngovene.
Six of the nine injured receiving medical care in hospitals in Barbeton and Nelspruit are known to be Sipho Bila (driver), Susan Mashab, “Daniel”, Neusa Mutlou, Frans Nkwelume and Raymond Vilanculos.
