The Mozambican Cabinet yesterday approved a revision to the Personal Income Tax (IRPS) code exempting employees from the presentation of income declarations.
Speaking at a press conference following the weekly Council of Ministers session, spokeswoman Ana Comoana said that the amendment aimed to make the collection of IRPS more flexible.
“In the event that the taxable person derives taxable income from exclusively dependent work during the year, he shall be exempt from the obligation to file the income tax return,” Comoana said.
As part of the changes to the tax legislation, which have yet to be approved by parliament, the Council of Ministers also defined mechanisms for the cooperation of local authorities with the Tax Authority in the collection of taxes, as well as the differentiation of additional incomes from a main income.
“The other change is the need to establish mechanisms allowing local authorities to cooperate in the collection of property taxes,” Comoana added.
