The Mozambican government yesterday approved a bill to hold accountable transport companies that do not comply with the legal requirements for the entry of foreign citizens into Mozambique, a spokesman for the Cabinet said.
“The law will hold accountable the companies that transport foreign citizens who do not meet the necessary requirements to enter Mozambique,” said Augusto de Sousa Fernando.
The spokesman of the Council of Ministers spoke moments after the 29th session of the organ in Maputo.
Under the new law, carriers will be forced to bear the cost of repatriating foreign nationals who do not meet the requirements to enter the country.
The new law will require those travelling with minors to carry parental authorisation certified by a notary. Even where a child is travelling with one parent the authorisation of the other parent will be necessary.
“The law will impose measures in relation to illegal immigration and trafficking in human beings,” added the Mozambican government spokesman added.
The new legal instrument, which is still to be submitted to the Mozambican parliament for approval, will repeal Law No. 5/93, now in force for 25 years.
