Mozambique: Government concerned about reducing the price of essential products

The Government today announced an increase in fuel prices, justifying the measure on the import cost of petroleum products and the margins of distributors and retailers.
The adjustment announced todayis set to take effect from Saturday, gasoline rises from the current 47.52 meticais to 50.02 meticais per litre, diesel from 36.81 meticais to 45.83 meticais per litre and lamp oil, used by most of the Mozambican population, from 28.64 meticais per litre to 33.06 meticais.
Domestic gas rises from 55.45 meticais per kilo to 58.54 meticais and compressed gas from 17.75 to 24.90 meticais.
“The measure arises from the need to update the prices inline with the the import of petroleum products, the margins of distributors and retailers applied in the public sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)” indicates a note from the Ministry of Mineral Resources of Mozambique.
The last fuel and petroleum products price adjustment in the country occurred in 2011.
