Mozambican UX Information Technologies is a winner in the ‘Uncharted’ category [Forward-Looking and Early-Movers] of the African Entrepreneurship Award, one of the outstanding startup prizes on the African continent, the final phase of which took place in Casablanca, Morocco, between 30 November and 5 December.
UX entered its Biscate application, launched in Mozambique two months ago in a partnership with Vodacom, which connects workers from the informal sector to clients through SMS, USSD and web technologies.
The competition comprised several stages, with 8,700 entrepreneurs and 4,000 potential projects initially enrolled. Of these, 37 ideas representing 22 countries went on to the final. The award will gift UX with mentoring and financial assistance for the further development of Biscate.
According to UX co-founder Frederico Silva, “this award is an acknowledgement of Biscate’s potential, while opening possibilities for its expansion in Mozambique and the African continent”.
UX recently won the Innovation Award in Mozambique’s 100 Best SMEs in 2016 competition. The firm currently has more than 19,000 employees and more than 13,000 clients across the national territory.
