Today, the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre (CCFM), hosts a concert entitled “Kapa Dêch: On the way to 30 years”.
The band celebrates three decades of a career marked by musical innovation, national and international recognition, and commitment to the promotion of Mozambican culture.
In addition to celebrating the band’s artistic longevity, the concert also pays tribute to two members of the historic Kapa Dêch who have already passed away: vocalist Tony Jango and percussionist Pilecas Nhavene, whose contribution was decisive in the group’s musical identity and aesthetics.
The concert will revisit emblematic themes from the albums “Katchume” and “Tsuketani”, works that have indelibly marked the Mozambican music scene.
For band member Rufus Maculuve, the concert is symbolic, paying tribute to his deceased colleagues and providing an opportunity to reflect on the 30 years.
In this return to the stage of the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre, where in 1996 the group had its first major exposure to a more open and independent audience, Kapa Dêch invites the audience to embark on a true journey to their origins.
Created in 1996 by four young people determined to give Mozambican music greater representation on the international stage, Kapa Dêch was inspired by influences such as Ghorwane, Alambique, Grupo RM, as well as by African and international names such as Stimela, Osibisa, Salif Keita and Mory Kanté.
On its way to its 30th anniversary, to be celebrated in 2026, Kapa Dêch continues to assert itself as an essential reference in Mozambican music, keeping alive the country’s creativity, memory and cultural pride.
